Collateral Beauty Builds Anticipation with Signing of Edward Norton, Michael Pena, Naomie Harris
It's been development hell for Collateral Beauty, which initially had Alfonso Gomez-Rejon at the helm with Hugh Jackman and Rooney Mara to star. Once Jackman dropped out, things got, kind of, worse.
Will Smith stepped in, to play a New York advertising executive who experiences a personal tragedy and falls into a deep depression after which is colleagues resort to an "unconventiaonal paln" to attempt to help him out of it.
That age old saying, "creative differences", lead to Gomez-Rejon exiting, and news has dried up until now. New Line Studio has gathered the debris and looks committed to crafting something solid.
Via The Wrap, David Frankel is to direct with a cast of Smith, Helen Mirren, Edward Norton, Michael Pena, and Naomie Harris. In talks to join is Oscar-nominee Rachel McAdams (though her current role on Doctor Strange questions how available she is).
On top of that, the script is written by Allan Loeb, and one producer has come across from Spotlight to back the project. This film is shaping up to be one to keep an eye on, and we'll certainly be doing just that.
