David S. Goyer Rumoured to Direct 'Green Lantern Corps'

HaydnSpurrell HaydnSpurrell Warner Bros. have pushed Aquaman to the vacated Avatar Christmas release of 2018, and its hoping to put another project into production before the end of the year in the wake of The Batman's apparent delay.

Green Lantern Corps would perhaps be the last pick for any of the studio's DC films to be getting fast-tracked. It has no director, was seemingly the last project revealed when things were just kicking off for the DCEU, and has a 2020 release slated.

A rumour is now circling that Man of Steel and Batman v Superman screenwriter David S. Goyer, who is also co-writing the Green Lantern Corps script with Justin Rhodes, is in the running to direct the picture.

The Tracking Board reporter Justin Sneider said, “I’m hearing David Goyer could very well wind up directing Green Lantern Corps himself. When you look at screenwriters that are taking the plunge and directing these movies themselves, we saw rumors last month that Simon Kinberg was going to direct the next X-Men movie. David Goyer is responsible for this entire DC Universe, he wrote Batman Begins and The Dark Knight. He wrote Man of Steel, he is the architect, if you will. He is writing and producing Green Lantern Corps, so it’s just very well, what I have heard, one of those situations where he could be like ‘Listen, I think I may be the best guy for the job, nobody knows this like I do.'”

The news may be sour for those who haven't been a fan of his recent scripts, though most of the distaste has been directed at Zack Snyder rather than the writers for better or worse. Goyer's directing history isn't stellar. He helmed Blade Trinity, The Unborn, and The Invisible, as well as a few episodes of TV series Flashforward and Da Vinci's Demons.

This remains a rumour for the time being, and we'll just have to wait on official word from Warner Bros. The studio and the DCEU is in the news on a constant basis, though unfortunately it's usually for the wrong reasons.
