Disney is developing a "Tower of Terror" Movie
Twilight Zone Tower of Terror is a wildly popular Disney attraction and it's now getting its own film adaption. But this wouldn't be the first time Tower of Terror was made into a movie. It was also a 'made for television' film starring Steve Guttenberg and Kirsten Dunst. The movie isn't well remembered.
"Tower of Terror" has thrilled millions at Disney Parks all over the world. Walt Disney Imagineering (the division of the Walt Disney Company which dreams up all of its various theme park attractions) has made different versions of the attraction. This film adaption will be based off of the original attraction that is featured at Disney's Hollywood Studios.
The Florida attraction is loosely based off of The Twilight Zone anthology which aired on CBS in the late fifties. 'The Twilight Zone' will not be apart of the adaption, only elements from the Disney attraction. This is because Warner Bros. is developing a stand alone movie for 'The Twilight Zone'.
Deadline.com reports that screenwriter John August (who has worked with Tim Burton on projects like the 'Corpse Bride' and 'Frankenweenie') wrote a treatment of the story. Disney is currently searching for more writers to turn his treatment into a feature length film.
The film will be produced by Jim Whitaker (Whitaker also pitched the idea for this movie along with August). He has been a producer for many films such as '8 Mile', 'American Gangster' and 'Friday Night Lights', not to mention he'll be producing the remake of Pete's Dragon.
The setting of the movie should be in the 1930's if it's to be true to the original attraction. The movie will obviously be in the horror genre. 'Tower of Terror' has a lot of potential and it will be interesting to see how this film develops.
