Disney Resurrecting 'The Black Cauldron', After Acquiring Rights to the 'Chronicles of Prydain' Series

ZachPerilstein ZachPerilstein Disney Reporter In 1985, Disney had a film which many have forgotten with 'Black Cauldron' and now it looks like they are trying to bring the story back to life in live action.

According to Variety, Disney recently acquired the rights to the Welsh mythology series Chronicles of Prydain. The Chronicles of Prydain was written by fairy tale novelist Lloyd Alexander. The Black Cauldron is the second book in the series. Disney in the eighties made a early attempt at this story and the company disliked the film so much it has been hidden in the vault for years.

Disney's The Black Cauldron is about a young pig keeper and a princess as they go on an adventure. On their adventure they face threats from the Horned King and his army of the undead.

The Black Cauldron will join a list of franchises that started off as animated features for the Walt Disney Company and now are being turned into live action films. The original film The Black Cauldron is also mentioned in the book DisneyWar.

The Prydain Chronicles could be a massive success for Disney and it could become their version of Lord of the Rings.
