Disney's Live-Action/CGI Hybrid 'Rescue Rangers' Film Taps Lonely Island's Akiva Schaffer for Director

ZachPerilstein ZachPerilstein Disney Reporter The new live-action Chip ‘n’ Dale: Rescue Rangers film has found its director.

Akiva Schaffer of Lonely Island has closed in on a deal to helm Disney's live-action/CGI hybrid of Chip 'n' Dale: Rescue Rangers. David Hoberman and Todd Lieberman who produced The Muppets and Beauty and the Beast are producing the project.

Currently it is unclear if the project will be heading to Disney+ or for a theatrical release. Dan Gregor and Doug Mand wrote the script which is currently being described as self-referential. Maybe this is the start to the Disney Saturday Morning Cartoon-verse?

Chip 'n Dale have been around since 1943. Chip ‘n Dale Rescue Rangers ran for three seasons. The show was about Chip 'n Dale running a detective agency.

Akiva Schaffer is a part of Lonely Island. The group along with Andy Samberg and Jorma Taccone. Where they made classic digital shorts for Saturday Night Live. Schaffer Popstar: Never Stop Stopping and Pen15.
