Emily Blunt Set to Play Mary Poppins in Disney Sequel

HaydnSpurrell HaydnSpurrell The British actress is in talks to play the iconic Disney character in an upcoming sequel, over forty years in the making, after rumours last September surfaced that Blunt was being eyed for the role.

The sequel will be set twenty years after the 1964 classic, with director Rob Marshall already attached to the project. David Magee is writing the script, and it is believed that the film will borrow material from the P.L. Travers book series, the last of which released 50 years after the first debuted in 1934.

Via THR, "The story is set in Depression-era London and revolving around a now-grown Michael Banks, who has children of his own. In tough times, big sister Jane returns and soon after, their beloved Mary Poppins comes back to help."

Not much beyond it being a musical is known at this point, so if anything Blunt should start practicing her pitch. The actress fits the part, and is a fan-favourite for the role.
