HBO Cancels 'Togetherness' After 2 Seasons

HaydnSpurrell HaydnSpurrell HBO has announced the cancellation of Togetherness, the familyy dramedy created by Jay and Mark Duplass and Steve Zissis. The show survived just two seasons before being pulled uncharacteristically, given that HBO has a knack for long-lasting shows.

In HBO's statement announcing the cancellation, it states that "Although we have decided not to proceed with another season of Togetherness, we look forward to continuing our strong creative collaboration with the talented Jayy and Mark Duplass."

The creators have an overall deal at HBO, where their animated comedy series Animals is currently airing after already being picked up for two seasons. HBO clearly wanted to clarify that no creative departures were behind the show's axing.

The cancellation comes down to basic numbers, as the comedy imply wasn't pulling in high enough numbers. The show grew from 427,000 viewers to 2.6 million across all of HBO's viewing platforms, but it didn't grow enough to stand amongst HBO's remaining comedic output (Silicon Valley, Girls etc.)

Three episodes remain for the series, and fans can hope that there's some sort of closure at the end of an admittedly short journey.
