HBO Confirms 'Deadwood' Movie in Development

NadiaA71 NadiaA71 For almost a decade now, fans of HBO's 'Deadwood' have lamented the series' run of only 3 seasons. And ever since the finale of the gritty western drama in 2006, there have been talks of making a movie to tie up the loose ends. But nothing substantial had materialized.

Recently however, HBO's Programing President Michael Lombardo confirmed that a Deadwood movie has received a green light from the network and that David Milch, the series creator and writer, will work on its development.

“David has our commitment that we are going to do it,” says Lombardo. “He pitched what he thought generally the storyline would be — and knowing David, that could change. But it’s going to happen. The understanding is that when he is done with [his current project] he will turn his attention to [writing the] script for the ‘Deadwood’ film.”

Of course, at this stage it is too early to even speculate when they will start filming. Not to mention the problem of pulling together the extensive cast who are now involved with other projects. But Lombardo seems confident that Milch will be able to round up the actors back for a Deadwood reunion.

Also, there seems to be a surge of gritty western drama lately and so this is probably a good time for Deadwood to make a comeback.
