Hulu Ending its Free Service to go Completely Subscription-Based

HaydnSpurrell HaydnSpurrell For nine years, Hulu has offered a free service for customers, but the streaming service is ending that part of the deal, instead now opting to go entirely subscription based for the future.

The company will be letting customers know in the coming days and offering free trials of its paid subscription to free-tier members. Hulu has been quietly phasing out free content for a while now, bolstering its original drama stocks with The Path and Difficult People, as well as an archive that requires payment to access.

The free service was a "rolling five," where the most recent five episodes would be available of a currently airing series, coming to the service eight days after airing (as opposed to mere hours for paid users).

Hulu is jointly owned by Disney, Fox, NBCUniversal and Time Warner.
