Kung Fu Panda has $10.5 Million Opening Day
Kung Fu Panda 3 dominated Friday with an opening domestic tally of $10.5M at the North American box office. The sequel is now on track for a $40-41M opening weekend, just shy of Kung Fu Panda 2's $47.7M.
With a solid critical response so far for the film, word of mouth should spread as an added bonus that should bolster the film's arrival to theatres. Star Wars: The Force Awakens, in its seventh week, took $2.5M on Friday, with a projected $9.9M weekend take.
The Revenant finished the weekend in second place, far below Kung Fu Panda with $3.2M. The Finest Hours followed closely behind.
