Laurence Fishburne Not Reprising his 'Man of Steel' Role in 'Justice League'

HaydnSpurrell HaydnSpurrell Laurence Fishburne has appeared in Man of Steel and Batman v Superman: Dawn of Justice, but he won't be anywhere to be seen in the upcoming sequel, Justice League. Perry White is being overlooked, probably for good reason, in a film that's expanding the roster and taking this franchise head-first into the realm of superheroes.

Speaking with the Los Angeles Times, Fishburne explained that, while they did try to make it work, he wouldn't be in Justice League. "They asked me to come for a day, but I couldn’t work it out, schedule-wise. And really, what do you need the newspaperman in “Justice League” for? You want to see the Flash. You want to see Aquaman. You want to see Wonder Woman. You want to see the Lantern."

He mentions the Lantern, which is an interesting addition. We can't really take much from that, as he's possibly drawing knowledge from the fact that Green Lantern is traditionally part of the Justice League. Still, it's worth noting.

Fishburne clearly has some excitement for Justice League, as a self-admitted comic book-geek. "We’ve been waiting 35 years for these [characters] to show up on the screen. What were they doing over there? Marvel has been kicking their ass. This is the comic-book geek in me, who has a collection of comic books. I’ve been waiting to see these people on-screen forever.

"Look, I love what Zack Snyder does. Jesse Eisenberg, this little nebbishy guy, as Lex Luthor? For me, that’s a genius move. And the whole thing with Martha Kent and Martha Wayne? I don’t know, man, I must be sentimental but that’s some heartwarming [stuff] to me. So I don’t get it," he said of the Batman v Superman backlash.

Justice League opens November 17.
