The Place
Beyond the Pines

with a sloppy tattoo on his face, he robs banks on his motorcycle

In Drive he is the quiet getaway driver. In The Place Beyond the Pines Ryan Gosling does the robbing himself and uses his motor for the getaway. But this is not Drive 2 and it doesn’t try to be.

Nor is it the followup to director Derek Cianfrance and Ryan Gosling’s previous film, Blue Valentine. One day, when the two met in real life, Derek told Ryan about the movie he was writing. A film about a grungy motorcyclist who robs banks. Apparently Ryan always had the same idea. Would he ever rob a bank, he would do it on a motorcycle wearing a helmet to cover his face. And since there's no need for Ryan Gosling to be robbing banks — his acting job is working out pretty well so far — they decided to make this movie instead.
