Marvel Studios President Kevin Feige Sees "Immediate Potential" for A 'Nova' Film

ZachPerilstein ZachPerilstein Disney Reporter We were introduced to the Nova Corps back in Guardians of the Galaxy. Ever since then fans have been clamoring to see this special, cosmic character on the big screen.

Well Marvel President Kevin Feige gave the fans of Nova some hope. The character was originally schedule to appear in Guardians of the Galaxy. The character was showing up in earlier drafts of the film. Last August, James Gunn, the director of Guardians of the Galaxy, explained that Marvel should introduce Nova to the cinematic universe. Gunn also elaborated saying that Guardians of the Galaxy Vol.3 will set up the next decade of the MCU. While expanding the MCU's growing cosmic universe. Although they didn't reveal if Nova would join.

Feige comments suggest that Nova film may be coming to the distinctly different Phase 4 or Phase 5. "Nova is… if we have a big board with a bunch of characters that have more immediate potential, Nova is on that board,” Feige divulged. “Because of the connection to the Guardians universe, because there are more than one examples to pull from in the comics that are interesting. And you’re absolutely right, he was in the earliest drafts of the Guardians of the Galaxy.”

Richard Rider was the original Nova, and Sam Alexander was Kid Nova. The Nova and Nova Corps comics gives Marvel Studios an opportunity to play in a sandbox with more characters. Plus Nova has ties with The New Warriors, who are supposedly getting a TV show. Those characters could be entering the fold too.

Richard Rider’s Nova, who first appeared in 1976’s Nova #1 was created by Marv Wolfman and John Buscema His origin is about him being chosen by Rhomann Dey to succeed him in the rank of Nova Prime after his home, Xandar, was destroyed. As a Nova, Rider was granted the power of improved strength, invulnerability, the ability to fly and a uniform with a life support system and used these abilities to defend New York, before eventually joining the Nova Corps. These list of powers would bring something new to the MCU and the cosmic side of the universe. Rhomann Dey has already entered the MCU having been portrayed by John C. Reilly in 2014’s Guardians of the Galaxy. Meaning that there is potential Nova could get a new origin story or they may have been planning this for a long time. (Shocked? Not Shocked).

Post Phase Three is currently unknown. We only know that there is a confirmed Spider-Man sequel and Guardians of the Galaxy Vol.3. With the most likely addition of Black Panther 2.

Nova may be coming to the Marvel Cinematic Universe too. Let's see if there is any hints in Avengers: Infinity War which is directed by Joe and Anthony Russo. Avengers: Infinity War comes into theaters on April 27.
