Nate Parker's 'The Birth of a Nation' To Enter Awards Conversation with Fall Release Date

HaydnSpurrell HaydnSpurrell Fox Searchlight has announced a release date for their record-breaking $17.5 million acquisition of Nate Parker's slave drama.

As if we expected otherwise, Fox has announced a fall 2016 release date for The Birth of a Nation, which single-handedly stole the show at this year's Sundance Film Festival.

The film, via TheWrap, will open nationwide on October 7 of this year. It will go up against Emily Blunt's The Girl on the Train, and Ben Affleck-starrer The Accountant. X-Men spinoff Gambit also has an October 7 release, but that's had all kinds of delays that have us doubting its punctuality.

Parker famously devoted everything to this film, putting his acting career on hold in order to tell the story of Nat Turner, a slave who led a rebellion in pre-Civil War Virginia.
