New Details Surface on 'Rogue One' Primary Villain, Ben Mendelsohn's Orson Krennic

HaydnSpurrell HaydnSpurrell Details are starting to leak out regarding Rogue One: A Star Wars Story, and now we've learned a bit more about Ben Mendelsohn's character, who isn't a Grand Admiral as many speculated but instead an Imperial officer on the rise that goes by Director Orson Krennic.

"There is a lot of palace intrigue going on in the Empire," producer John Knoll told EW. "People conspiring to move up the ranks and sabotaging each other. There's not a lot of loyalty there."

It'll be fascinating to take a look at the politics behind closed doors in the Empire, given that very little of that was shown in the original trilogy (which made Finn's introduction in The Force Awakens feel fresh and new).

Krennic wants to be the Emperor's right hand man, and there's of course one particularly dominant figure already in that role.

"Vader doesn't play by the rules. He's present in the military structure, but he's not beholden to it. He's not accountable to anybody, really, except Palpatine," Kiri Hart, head of the Lucasfilm Story Group said.

Krennic wants to bring the Rebellion down before Vader can have a say, and therefore attempt to move up the ranks. It sounds rather pedestrian as far as villains go, but hopefully there's a little more to it.
