Production Shut Down on HBO's 'Westworld', Still Targeting 2016 Release

HaydnSpurrell HaydnSpurrell Via Variety, production has been temporarily shut down on HBO's heavily anticipated drama Westworld.

With no official premiere date, the production has been closed down for two months so that executive producers Jonathan Nolan and Lisa Joy can catch up on the remaining four scripts.

Set to wrap in November, production will resume again in March. "As we head into the final phase of production on 'Westworld', we've made the decision to take a brief hiatus in order to get ahead of the writing," HBO announced in a statement.

Sources have told Variety that HBO is confident of making its targeted premiere date, which has yet to be specified.

Based on the 1973 film starring Yul Brynner, Westworld is described as a "dark odyssey about the dawn of artificial consciousness and the future of sin." Initially, the series was ordered in November 2014, greenlit in 2013, for a 2015 premiere date.
