'Rogue One: A Star Wars Story' Tracking for $130 Million Box Office Debut

HaydnSpurrell HaydnSpurrell Rogue One is tracking for an enormous opening weekend, and while tracking numbers can never guarantee success, things are nevertheless looking good for the film from the outset.

THR reports that the film is tracking for a minimum of $130 million domestically in its opening weekend, while some services are predicting as high as $150 million. Given that there's a lot riding on the anthology format, those at Disney would be licking their lips.

Should it reach numbers like this, it would becomes second all time highest earner only to last year's The Force Awakens, which earned $248 million on opening weekend. That stands as the biggest opening weekend ever, and is a record for December which had prior to that never seen a film pass $100 million.

It only needs to eclipse the $84 million record set by The Hobbit: An Unexpected Journey to steal the second place, and start to pile the record lists even higher with Star Wars titles.
