'Shrek 5' Sets Course for a 2019 Release
With NBC Universal's acquisition of DreamWorks Animation to the tune of $3.8 million, and with a Shrek continuation already teased by those involved, it looks like the big green swamp-dweller is coming back after all.
If THR's sources are correct, we'll have a fifth Shrek hitting theaters in 2019. These unnamed sources are citing that Universal has greenlit DreamWorks for two films in that year. The other of which is Shadows from Edgar Wright and David Walliams.
NBC Universal's chief Steve Burke announced a little while ago that his goal is for the studio to release up to four films a year following the merge, following on from the success of Madagascar and How to Train Your Dragon.
