Something's Coming in 'Game of Thrones', But the Show Doesn't Get to Spoil it

HaydnSpurrell HaydnSpurrell Game of Thrones ventures into uncharted territory this year, now that the show has overtaken George R.R. Martin's groundbreaking fantasy series.

As such, many fans of the novels are worried that the source material is going to be spoiled, a dilemma that is remarkably new and unheard of. George R.R. Martin has come out now to reassure that there are some things the show doesn't get to ruin for his avid fans.

"Some of the 'spoilers' you may encounter in season six may not be spoilers at all... because the show and the books have diverged, and will continue to do so."

Specifically, Martin has a twist regarding a still living character that has been killed off in the show. The character's death on the TV series gave Martin a little hesitation, but in the end he decided to go forward with it in the end.

"I have decided to do it" Martin said to IGN. "Will you know it? I don't know. It is fairly obvious it is something that involves a couple of characters, one of which is dead on the show, and not dead in the books. So the show can't do it, unfortunately, because they have killed someone I have not killed."

Possible characters that he may be referring to include Barristan Selmy, Jojen Reed, and Stannis Baratheon, who have all been killed off on the show but remain alive, so far, in Martin's books.

The show returns for a sixth season on April 24, while no release date has been named for the delayed sixth book of the book series.
