'Step Up' TV Series Headed to YouTube Red
Channing and Jenna Dewan-Tatum are helping to set up a Step Up TV series for YouTube Red, which will be exclusively available on YouTube's streaming service following a steady succession of sequels for the franchise since 2006.
Lionsgate will take the reins on the show, and the Tatum's will serve as executive producers alongside Adam Shankman, Jennifer Gibgot, and Meredith Milton.
YouTube has eyed the property for a while, via Susanne Daniels, who heads YouTube Originals. “We know dance is a hugely successfully global audience on YouTube,” said Daniels.
Lionsgate Television Group Chairman Kevin Beggs had this to say:
“After five exciting and successful movies, we’re proud to partner with YouTube Red, a major new force on the programming landscape, to adapt the films into an adrenaline-filled original drama series driven by its non-stop energy, spectacular dancing and A-list creative talent." The series is expect to debut next year.
