Stephen King's 'Mr. Mercedes' Gets a Straight-to-Series Order for TV Adaptation
THR is reporting that AT&T's Audience Network has ordered 10-episodes straight-to-series for Stephen King's "hard-boiled detective tale," Mr. Mercedes, being adapted by David E. Kelley (Boston Legal, The Practice).
The series is set to be produced by Sonar Entertainment as well as Emmy-winning star Brendan Gleeson. Gleeson, 61, is best known for his roles in Braveheart and the Harry Potter films. Anton Yelchin is also producing, and appears in the J.J. Abrams-produced Star Trek series.
“In the gloomy pre-dawn hours of a distressed Midwestern city, hundreds of unemployed hopefuls are lined up for a job fair,” reads the book's synopsis (via stephenking.com). "Without warning, a merciless driver plows through the crowd in a roaring Mercedes. Eight people are killed; 15 are wounded. The killer escapes into the early-spring fog never to be seen from again. Until now...
“Detective Bill Hodges is a battle-hardened and streetwise crime fighter originally assigned to the Mercedes killings. Mr. Mercedes will premiere in 2018, and is based on the 2014 bestseller.
