Suicide Squad Sequel Already in Warner Bros. Plans
Earlier we reported that director David Ayer would be re-teaming with Will Smith for a script written by Max Landis titled Bright. Within the initial report coming from TheWrap, hides the quote "Ayer hopes to fit the project into his fall schedule before Warner Bros. brings him and Smith back for a planned Suicide Squad sequel in 2017."
This is nowhere as surprising as it probably should be given how far out the first film still is from premiering, but this is the way of the industry at the moment, particularly the superhero genre. It's no surprise Warner Bros. hopes to build a franchise-within-a-franchise with Suicide Squad.
And given the star-power involved, it's all the more likely that Warner Bros. would capitalise on the opportunity. There is no formal announcement about a Suicide Squad 2, so for now we're relying on TheWrap's reports, and even if they do announce it prior to the release of Suicide Squad, we all know what happened to Fox's Fantastic Four sequel... anything can happen depending on the film's success.
If the reports are true, and a 2017 production date is being eyed, then expect the sequel on either 2018 or 2019, but for now let's just hope the first film knocks it out of the park.
