The Coen Brothers Polishing the 'Scarface' Script, New Release Date and Director Details

HaydnSpurrell HaydnSpurrell Recently, the contemporary Scarface remake lost its director Antoine Fuqua (The Magnificent Seven) due to scheduling conflicts, but now there's some good news. The Coen Brothers, who have done some fascinating work in the scripting world of filmmaking, are polishing the script. That said, they won't be directing.

With Diego Luna to star in the film, Patriots Day and Deepwater Horizon director Peter Berg is reportedly the frontrunner for the job, alongside David Mackenzie (Hell or High Water). Variety reports the news, and it's not the first time some talent has been brought in to take a look at the screenplay. Boardwalk Empire's Terence Winter was months ago hired to rewrite Jonathan Herman's script.

The new version of the Scarface tale will be set in Los Angeles and will focus on a Mexican immigrant. It has a release date of August 10, 2018.
