'The Jungle Book' Takes $32.4 Million on Day One

HaydnSpurrell HaydnSpurrell The Jungle Book has earned $32.4 million at the box office on its opening day, with an estimated trajectory of $90 million for its opening weekend tally.

If it maintains that kind of pace, it could well be on track for third best on the list of all-time March opening weekend totals, behind Captain America: The Winter Soldier.

The only real other competition the film has are Warner Bros. and MGM's Barbershop: The NextCut and Lionsgate's Criminal. Given early praise for The Jungle Book, expect plenty of people to head out over the weekend to make their own verdict on the Disney reinterpretation.
