The Team Behind AMC's 'Preacher' on How it'll Differ from the Comic

HaydnSpurrell HaydnSpurrell With Preacher coming up later this year, there's plenty of pressure on the team to deliver. It is both a cult classic comic book and also AMC's follow up to their other comic book series, The Walking Dead. The stakes are somewhat high.

But as fans of the comic themselves, Seth Rogen, Evan Goldberg and Sam Catlin are all committed to telling this story, but in the right way for television. "We're fans of the comic. We love the comic. And we're going to make a show that we like, so we hope that translates to people that love the comics, as well," Rogen said at the Television Critics Association press tour on Friday. "But first and foremost, our goal is to make a great television show."

Goldberg did say there will be differences to Garth Ennis' Vertigo comic book series. "Garth very much encouraged us to make a lot of small changes." Rogen added, "I don't know if you could translate the comics directly to television - everyone thought we should not do that directly, including Garth... [but] there's tons of stuff from the comic that we hope to include."

Dominic Cooper, who plays the titular preacher, Jesse Custer, describes the role as "an absolute honour", admitting that he "was very nervous." But his excitement toward the role is promising.
