Weekend BO Numbers

from the movie Gran Torino

about

Hey guys, it’s me with a quick update on last weekend’s box office. I haven’t posted a lot of new videos the last few days, but that’ll change when the new site is up. Probably tomorrow. Then I’ll get back to bringing you the regular daily movie updates.

As I mentioned in Saturday’s update, this isn’t a good weekend for Watchmen. It came in just before The Last House on the Left and made $18 million, down almost 70%. Disney’s Race to Witch Mountain did fairly well and made $25 million during the weekend.

This changes nothing to what I said on Saturday. When Watchmen leaves the theaters, there will be no profit for Warner, sadly. Especially when we see the overseas totals.

At the third place, low budget Gran Torino is coming closer to $200 million worldwide, it made $11.4 million. Watchmen made a sad $13.5 million in 54 territories. And Marley and Me is topping with $13.9 million.

Marley and Me just launched in some large territories and has yet to launch in some bigger countries like Spain. This is definitely a winner for Fox and will top 200 million worldwide after the weekend.

But Watchmen is a totally different story. With its enormous budget and marketing campaign, it only made $135 million two weeks after its worldwide release. It’s questionable if it can even make $200 million worldwide.

Next weekend we’ll have Duplicity, I Love You, Man and Knowing.

Gran Torino other (1:36 minutes) added to the Cultjer video catalog on March 16th, 2009.
