Warner Bros. Exploring 70mm Release Potential for Batman v Superman

HaydnSpurrell HaydnSpurrell Warner Bros. is reportedly seeking out theaters and it seems testing the waters on a potential 70mm release for their March blockbuster superhero stage fight.

"Warners called this week to re confirm that we have 70 capability so we will see what happens," said David J. Hilsgen, a film handler on the Film Tech forums.

The 70mm campaign successfully resulted from Quentin Tarantino's efforts that lead to The Hateful Eight's $8-10 million project to restore projectors and train professionals on the then dormant format.

With the projectors ready to go, it seems easy enough for other studios to sneak in and take advantage of everybody else's hard work, and it seems that's exactly what Warner Bros intends to do.

Arguably, and many film purists will debate, there seems little point in transferring digital, special effects-heavy movies to film unless there is a guarantee that the studio is confident in its quality.

Batman v Superman arrives, in whatever capacity, on March 25th.
