Why You Should Be Excited About 'Rogue One' and the Rest of the Star Wars Franchise

joshwilliams09 joshwilliams09 Star Wars has been wildly enjoyed by audiences around the world ever since the first screening in 1977. The exciting science fiction film brought on a huge cult following almost immediately. The movie brought on quite an exciting amount of hype for both children and adults and we couldn’t wait for the next installment. So now, with a rebirth of the franchise and even some in-between installments beginning with Rogue One, the Star Wars franchise is once again in full swing. With that said, here are some reasons that you should be excited not only for Rogue One, but all of the in-between Star Wars films.

The first thing that excites us about this series, and that is possibly the biggest risk of the franchise is utilizing amateur directors. The directors behind both the in-between films, and the continuation of the franchise are still freshly new directors. These directors haven’t directed more than possibly two or three feature films (aside from Abrams). But the best part about the producers taking chances on these directors is that they show promise. In their one or two films they manage to have a very clear visual style that they emulate. These directors are young auteurs and they are being given a larger budget in order to land both box-office success and immense enjoyment from the fandom.

Another reason that this gets us quite excited is their whole indie approach. Regardless of the movies still being filled to the absolute brim with special effects and CGI, they manage to take a more independent approach to the story. It’s obvious that the stories that are being written have been catered greatly, and hold several interesting subplots. Another indie approach is the new visual style that we are seeing in these indie films. The shallow depth of field, the use of grays in the background, having all of the color in the scenes be much more vibrant. By taking advantage of this new visual style that is becoming more and more popular it manages to add a “younger” vibe to the film, which is great for the newest generation of viewers.

One thing that the new films are channelling from the older films is utilizing middle budget actors. Actors and actresses who haven’t appeared in many bigger blockbuster style films, are now the leads of these projects. And they aren’t just a poor attempt at bringing unknown actors to the big screen, they’re actually talented. Every actor completely immerses themselves into the character that they’re playing, and they manage to bring quite the amount of talent to the screen. Each of these actors bring the heat with their performances, and once the visuals or story seems to be getting a bit old or boring, the actors bring the excitement back up.

Rogue One is going to have a wonderful style, performance, and established visual style. And this won’t only be a simple stroke of luck for director Gareth Edwards. It’ll be a wonderful middle installment, that will satisfy our need for Star Wars between the continuation of the franchise. There’s no reason we should be worried for both Rogue One and the rest of the exciting Star Wars films to come.
