The Star Trek sequel

featurette from the movie Star Trek

about this featurette

Yeah, the new Star Trek already feels epic, and it isn’t even released. That’s why Paramount just greenlit a sequel. Of course this comes as no surprise, since they’re rebooting the whole franchise. But it shows the faith Paramount has in Star Trek.

Officially announced in 2006, this Summer’s Star Trek took three years to produce. But they wanted to get an early start on the sequel. “We're so excited about the first one that we wanted to proceed," screenwriter Damon Lindelof said. They’ll start writing when the reactions on the first movie are in. And they hope to deliver the script by Christmas.

That means they could start shooting next year and you could be watching the next Star Trek in the Summer of 2011. O, and although J.J. Abrams directed the first movie, they didn’t decide if he’ll direct the second one. But he will be producing it.

Star Trek featurette (1:24 minutes) added to the Cultjer video catalog on March 31st, 2009.
