5. Superman III (1983)

Superman III went too far; too far down the dumbing down road. The addition of Richard Pryor wasn’t the most inspired piece of casting. He was a perfectly adequate comedic actor at the time, but his role in Superman III decreased the tone. Pryor wasn’t the biggest flaw in this lame duck, the Evil Superman was a pretty dumb creation. Saying that, we can’t complain too much. In 2007, producer Ilya Salkind released his original treatment for Superman III and boy did we have a lucky escape. Salkind wanted Superman to expand his scope to a cosmic scale. His treatment featured the villains Brainiac and Mr. Mxyzptlk, which would’ve been a logical move. It also featured the addition of Supergirl; again not too bad. But it all goes downhill from there. Brianiac is Supergirl’s father; a tiny bit strange and Supergirl and Superman are in a relationship. Ok that’s the straw that broke the camel’s back, that’s weird! Correct me if am wrong but according to the comics, aren’t Superman and Supergirl cousins? Thank god they chose the Richard Pryor/Evil Superman script. Sweet jeebus!
