Ethan Hawke reportedly accepts Doctor Strange role

JamesArthurArmstrong JamesArthurArmstrong Doctor Strange is one of Marvel's most exciting upcoming releases. Since being announced, many of Hollywood's best leading men have been rumoured to have been tempted with the role, but now reports are suggesting Marvel may have found their man.

Jared Leto and Joaquin Phoenix’s names have been attached to the role, with Phoenix being the more strongly tipped. But web site ThisIsInfamous.com is reporting that, surprisingly, Ethan Hawke has been linked with the role, and that the Boyhood star has gone as far as accepting the offer during the weekend.

It's being suggested that Hawke and executives are in fact ironing out negotiations, ready to have the deal sorted as soon as possible. The latest on these talks suggest they may be flushing out a six picture deal together.

Scott Derrickson has been hired to direct the Doctor Strange movie and Hawke does have previous with him, as they both worked together on 2012's Sinister. But the question stills remains, is Hawke a natural fit for Doctor Strange?

It can be seen as a strange move on both parts. Phoenix is a more, if you like, suitable fit for this type of character and Hawke, you wouldn't think, would be Marvel's kind of guy. It is being suggested that Hawke may be stepping in because Phoenix got cold feet about helming a superhero franchise, but until everything is made official, Doctor Strange is expected to be released in July 2016.
