Idris Elba in talks to star in Guy Ritchie's new King Arthur movie
Guy Ritchie has began casting for his upcoming 3D King Arthur movie titled as Knights of the Roundtable: King Arthur which is expected to see a July 2016 release.
Elba is up for the role of Bedivere, described as “Arthur’s father’s right-hand man who takes it upon himself to train the young warrior for battle as he learns his true destiny.” The casting of Elba will be a very strong first piece for Ritchie.
Warner Bros. are producing the project that is expected to be the first movie in a franchise that could see six releases. As the name of the first movie suggests, the franchise is going down the typical Hollywood cliche route by naming each movie instalment after a different knight. For example we’ll get Knights of the Roundtable: King Arthur, then Knights of the Roundtable: Lancelot and Knights of the Roundtable: Merlin— all building to a grand six-part adventure.
It is highly unlikely that Ritchie will direct all 6 chapters, but he may helm a few or just this one. Ritchie's next film, The Man from U.N.C.L.E., opens in January so we’ll surely be hearing much more about Knights of the Roundtable: King Arthur as we get closer to that.
