'Kingsman: The Secret Service' is Making Big Money in South Korea

JamesArthurArmstrong JamesArthurArmstrong With the eighth biggest film market in the world, South Korea is a place worth taking seriously if you want to make some serious cash, and that's exactly what Kingsman: The Secret Service is doing right now.

The Korea Times has reported their latest box office hit has struck it big in the burgeoning overseas market in a rather surprising way. This particularly big win for Kingsman is to the tune of 5 million tickets being sold at the South Korean box office, knocking Zack Snyder's 300 off the top of the countries most successful R-rated movie of all-time list.

Those 5 million ticket sales translate into approximately $35million, which doesn't sound like a huge number considering the movie made $109million domestically, but it does however, give South Korea the title of being the Kingsman's most successful territory outside of the United States. The movie made $10million less in the United Kingdom which is a huge scope considering the movies protagonists are British.

There doesn't seem to be a particular reason why South Korean audiences have taken so well to the movie, but its colourful humour and the tasty style in which Matthew Vaughn directs, may play a part in its strong box office performance.
