New 'Alien' Movie Confirmed, Will Be Directed by Neill Blomkamp
20th Century Fox has confirmed a deal with director Neill Blomkamp (District 9, Chappie) to develop a new Alien movie.
Blomkamp, who has directed the upcoming Sony Pictures movie Chappie, had been teasing the project over the past few months but said the reboot was likely abandoned. Blomkamp also noted that he had planned it to star Alien veteran Sigourney Weaver. But this past Wednesday Blomkamp confirmed the tentpole movie was back on track at Fox.
It’s too early to tell whether Weaver is still attached to the movie, but we expect an announcement regarding cast very soon.
According to insiders, this new Alien movie will take place years after the Prometheus sequel. This currently untitled Alien project by Blomkamp is separate from Prometheus 2, which Fox is making with Ridley Scott directing. Scott, however, will produce both films through his production company, Scott Free.
