Pixar teases first 5 minutes of 'Inside Out'

Pixar is Reportedly Working on Their First Ever Musical

JamesArthurArmstrong JamesArthurArmstrong Pixar is renowned for breaking new ground when it comes to animation. They've won 12 Academy Awards, broken box-office records, and created some of the most recognisable, and loved characters in recent cinema history. So, are they attempting something they have yet to do by making their first ever musical?

According to reports, Randy Newman has teased that Pixar Studios might be planning to create and release their very first musical. The legendary composer, pianist and songwriter made his remarks during an episode of Saturday Night at the Movies. Newman hinted he wouldn't be involved with the project, but he also revealed that Lee Unkrich would oversee the film.

"Lee Unkrich had Toy Story 3 temped with my music and it was limiting to me," said Newman. "It was fine, the movie did great and everything and maybe I’m wrong and if I look back on it I won’t know the difference, but it didn’t fit hand in glove the way I would have tried to do." Newman went on to conclude, "Now he’s not going to use me to work with him again. He’s doing a musical now."

It was announced way back in 2012 that Unkrich was working on a Pixar film that was inspired by Dia de los Muertos, otherwise known as the Day of the Dead, a Mexican holiday. However, there hasn’t been any new information on this project for several years now — which if pretty common regarding the amount of time it takes for an animated movie to be made.

The next Pixar movie to be released will be Inside Out (latest trailer below), which will hit theatres on the 19th June 2015, and The Good Dinosaur is scheduled for a 25th November 2015 release.
