LG Ultra HD tv

The big studios will soon give you an actual reason to buy that huge Ultra HD TV

burnsting burnsting Editor-in-chief Early High Definition adopters must all remember the time they got their pretty new flat-screen TV's. Great technology, but very little HD content to watch on it. Technology companies and movie studios are hoping the adoption of Ultra HD will be a bit quicker however, and just announced the UHD Alliance.

Walt Disney, Twentieth Century Fox and Warner Bros all signed up for the group that'll make sure everything you'll watch in the future will be produced and delivered in Ultra HD. This means the shooting, post-production, delivery and playback devices will all have to be up to snuff.

The technology companies making sure it'll all play well on your (no doubt huge-ass) new flat panels are Netflix, LG, Samsung, Panasonic, Sharp and Sony Visual Product Inc. - though strangely Sony Pictures Entertainment isn't mentioned anywhere.

As we've all moved from analog to digital TV connections over the last decade, I'm sure the move to UHD will be a lot quicker than the adoption of HD. Still, I'd expect we'll be watching UHD a lot sooner on Netflix than on our traditional TV setup boxes.
