'The LEGO Batman Movie' Gets a Release Date
Warner Bros. has unveiled its plans for the upcoming LEGO movies with the next three movies in the franchise getting release dates.
The Lego Batman Movie — which is still currently untitled — will be the first new LEGO movie sequel and will open on the 10th February 2017. The date is close to the 7th Febraury 2014 date that original LEGO Movie opened on, which lead to it being the surprise hit of last year that has kicked off this new franchise for the studio.
The second release, Ninjago, will hit theatres on the 22nd September 2017. That is a new date for the movie, which was originally planned for a release in the autumn of 2016. The third release will be The LEGO Movie Sequel — which is actually the films name. This sequel will open on the 18th May 2018. Again, this is a new date for the movie, pushing it up by a week.
"These three films already in the pipeline are just the beginning of a creative and diverse animation slate that will be delighting audiences for years to come,” said Dan Fellman, the studio’s domestic distribution president.
The LEGO Movie, directed by Phil Lord and Christopher Miller, was a huge success last year grossing $468.7 million worldwide.
