David Fincher, Rooney Mara and Stellan Skarsgard talk about making The Girl with the Dragon Tattoo

David Fincher: My casting rules are simple. I try to find the person that I feel like I can turn the character over to. You're looking for somebody to sort of hang a character on. You can kind of see them in... If you were to pre-imagine the movie, you would see them in it.

Rooney Mara: When we were screen-testing I was already reading things and doing research on it. And then when I got the part I really thrown into it quite fast. I was in Stockholm five days later. There was a lot of physical work we had to do. The motorcycle training and I did skateboarding and kickboxing. And then just from reading the books and conversations with David, there's a lot that went into it.

David Fincher: As you read the book, that she evolves from being a secondary character into a very primary role. And I think it was through the creation of her that he sort of found what the voice was. And the fact that she fights for them I think she fights for her own voice.

Stellan Skarsgard: Working with Fincher is not really working on a Hollywood production, because he uses all his resources to get time to get everything right. There's nothing especially fancy about it. No big trailers or anything. It's just about getting time to do the work right. So it feels like working on an independent film that goes on forever.

David Fincher also talks about what interested him in the making the film.
