Gary Oldman and Benedict Cumberbatch talk about Tinker Tailor Soldier Spy director Tomas Alfredson

Robyn Slovo (producer): It's a story about deceit, betrayal. It's a story about honesty and dishonesty. It's a story about people looking into other people's lives. It's a story about people not being honest about their own lives. These are fantastic themes for a very visually driven director.

Gary Oldman: I met Tomas and thought he had a great take on the material. In particular the way he talked about Smiley. I love him.

Tomas Alfredson (director): For me, I try to do my vision when I read the material. But you can read the book in so many ways. That's something I always say to authors that I work with. I will always make you disappointed, because I can never make your images. I can just make my own images.

Benedict Cumberbatch: Tomas is someone who shies away from cliches of the spy genre. So two men talking in a car in profile is gonna be a rare occurrence in this film. It forces the clandestine in the open. So it means that all these conversations, some of the most intimate ones, happen in very exposed places and take on this very dangerous air.

Colin Firth and John Hurt also talk about Tomas Alfredson.
