Johnny Depp talks about the seventies and how absurd it was. Dark Shadows

Johnny Depp explains his character Barnabas Collins, in Tim Burton's Dark Shadows. His character was cursed by a witch and he gets locked into a coffin for 200 years.

Johnny also talks about Elizabeth Collins, played by Michelle Pfeiffer. He says he and Tim Burton were fans of the original Dark Shadows show. And she turned out to be a fan as well. He says she was perfect for the role.

Johnny Depp also says the movie wouldn't have worked without the vision of Tim Burton. He says it is Dark Shadows, but a different angle. Taking what they did on the series, but heightening that reality a bit.

He talks about how 1972 was the worst time, esthetically, in human history. Everything's absurd. But people of that era accepted it. So they thought it was a great place to let a vampire be the eyes that see the absurdity.
