Andrew Neyman is a promising young drummer who enrols at a cutthroat music conservatory where his dreams of greatness are mentored by Terence Fletcher. Under the direction of the prestigious but borderline abusive instructor, the young college student begins to lose his humanity in his quest to become the core drummer of the top jazz orchestra in the country. The film received the top audience and grand jury awards at the 2014 Sundance Film Festival.
