Cary Fukunaga will direct ‘Bond 25’

GregHarmon GregHarmon Managing Editor Fukunaga becomes just the twelfth director to helm MGM's “Bond 25” installment

Eon’s Michael G. Wilson and Barbara Broccoli announced earlier today that True Detective and Beasts of No Nation, Director Cary Fukunaga will direct Bond 25 starring Daniel Craig.

Wilson and Broccoli confirmed the news in the following statement to the media: “We are delighted to be working with Cary. His versatility and innovation make him an excellent choice for our next James Bond adventure.”

Fukunaga replaces outgoing director Danny Boyle after reported “creative differences” stemming from writer John Hodge’s script to sources touting Broccoli and presumably Craig wanted 007 to go out in “spectacular fashion”.

The talented 41-year-old filmmaker came onto the scene after filming a pair of gorgeous indies with Sin Nombre and Jane Eyre. It wasn’t until Nic Pizzolatto’s True Detective season 1 that Hollywood took notice of Fukunaga’s jack-of-all-trade talents.

Fukunaga will join writers Neal Purvis and Robert Wade as they quickly get to work drafting a new script in time for March 4, 2019 production at Pinewood Studios with a worldwide release set for February 14, 2020.

I can’t say this news didn’t come as big surprise. That said I am a fan of Cary’s work and couldn’t be more thrilled about this announcement. Most of all, I’m excited to see what Cary has in store from a stylistic lens.
