Disney Rebooting 'Pirates of the Caribbean'

GregHarmon GregHarmon Managing Editor After 14 years, five films, and $4.5 billion dollars, Disney has decided to make Pirates of the Caribbean great again.

Disney is making plans to give their billion dollar franchise a complete makeover and the writers of both Deadpool films will pen the first installment!

Deadline is reporting the writers of 20th Century Fox’s Deadpool films, Rhett Reese and Paul Wernick, are in negotiations to reboot the first installment of Disney’s once wildly popular Pirates of the Caribbean series. Addtionally and perhaps less of a shocker, it appears that Disney is moving on from Johnny Depp as the series’ zany Captain Jack Sparrow. This according to the film’s original script writer Stuart Beattie, who went on the record suggesting Depp is “finished as the lead” telling the DailyMail TV “I think he's had a great run.”

While news of Disney’s reboot reeks of an uninspiring cash grab, I will say the entire Pirates franchise deserved much better than the last three installments. But if Disney is serious about resurrecting what was once an exciting property, in part thanks to Johnny, I have no objections if Rhett and Wernick go in a completely different direction featuring new characters, and more importantly, without Mr. Depp.
