Kate Winslet to headline HBO's limited series 'Mare of Easttown'
The premium cable network is making it increasingly difficult to quit them.
In welcomed casting news, I am happy to report Kate Winslet has signed on to star in HBO's newest limited series, Mare of Easttown.
HBO's dramatic series will mark Winslet's long-awaited return to television after her Emmy-winning performance in HBO’s 2011 limited series Mildred Pierce. Sources say Winslet will play a detective in small-town Pennsylvania who’s tasked with investigating a local murder “at a time when her own life is crumbling around her.” If this doesn't sound like the perfect offspring of True Detective and Sharp Objects, than I don't know what does.
Details about the project are scarce, including additional cast, release date and episode total, but HBO has confirmed Gavin O’Conner (The Accountant, Warrior) has signed on to direct every episode, written by series show runner Brad Ingelsby (Out of the Furnace, American Woman).
With a 2020 release date likely, it's fair to say Kate has secured her next Emmy nom. This also means, the chances of cancelling my HBO subscription after Game of Thrones bids adieu appears to be getting slimmer by the day (see - Big Little Lies S2, True Detective S3, Westworld S3, Nicole Kidman’s 'The Undoing,’ Damon Lindelof’s 'Watchmen', Jordan Peele’s ‘Lovecraft Country’).
