Michael Pena joins Warner Bros. live-action 'Tom and Jerry' movie

GregHarmon GregHarmon Managing Editor The never-ending rivalry between Hanna-Barbera’s titular characters is just heating up!

Michael Pena has joined the cast of Warner Bros. animated hybrid starring who else, TOM and JERRY!

Pena will play the film’s main antagonist opposite co-star Chloe Grace Moretz. And by antagonist, it sounds as if Pena will teeter on the lower case “a” (think - Tim Curry in Home Alone 2) playing a bully hotel manager who hires Chloe Grace Moretz’s character “Kayla” to oversee a high profile wedding. But when Kayla discovers a mouse (Jerry) has taken up residence at the posh hotel, she enlists the help of a sly ally cat (Tom) to dispose of the wily rodent.

Warner Bros. live-action hybrid will feature animated versions of Tom and Jerry who will remain silent as they have in the original cartoon series. Tim Story (Shaft, Ride Along) will direct, with the initial script written by Katie Silberman (Booksmart) and April Prosser (The Last Summer).

I can't quite picture how this will all play out as anything BUT fun and mindless entertainment. But then again, I have no doubt Pena and Moretz will do their part to aid in Tom and Jerry’s silly brand of slapstick mayhem.

Tom & Jerry hits theaters April 16, 2021.
