Paranormal Activity: The Ghost Dimension - Delivers on the Scares but Sadly not the Plot
Never has a film frustrated me before, but sadly this film has. There were so many things wrong with this film so let's dive into the monstrosity that is Paranormal Activity: The Ghost Dimension.
It's Christmas time and we have a family that is celebrating the holiday when the husband's brother comes to stay after breaking up with his girlfriend. The two find an old camera while decorating the front garden, as well as some tapes. We're then transported back to the third film where we see Katie and Kristie in the 80s. Suddenly the tapes cut to the two, much older, and they start describing the husband's daughter's room. Creeped out, they switch them off.
Basically they start watching these tapes and the two girls start communicating with the two guys. While this is going on the youngest daughter befriends Toby (the demon from the previous films). Creepy things start happening and then the whole family dies (what did you expect, it's Paranormal Activity). Now let's talk about the flaws in this film.
Firstly, the plot. We learn more about the witches and the mysterious coven, called The Midwives (no really, that's what they're called; doesn't sound very sinister, does it?). And that's all we learn. Oh, and it turns out they want to make Toby human, so they get the first born child, who was born on the sixth day of the sixth month of the sixth year, now we get our first and only answered question.
Now let's talk about the scares in this movie, and oh boy are they good classic Paranormal Activity scares, only this time it's in 3D. This works really well. The 3D is impressive, as are the scares that come with it, but sadly the horror is the only decent part of the film. The story is just bad, as I said before, and I didn't really like the characters. They were really bad. Anyway, I really didn't like this film to be honest, it sucked big time. I would give this a big fat 1/10. The scares were great but the story and characters are awful.
