Watch: David Fincher's New Netflix Series 'Mindhunter'

GregHarmon GregHarmon Managing Editor 1979 - 40 years ago your FBI was founded hunting down John Dillinger. Now, we have extreme violence among strangers...serial killers, new terminology.

The trailer for David Fincher's latest project poses the greater question: "How do we get ahead of crazy, when we don't know how crazy thinks?"

Mindhunter Trailer

While the answers won't come easy, Netflix's latest original series Mindhunter takes us back to 1979 and examines the seemingly radical idea that interviewing serial killers may attempt to get ahead of crazy while understanding just how crazy thinks.

But if you wanted enough reason to check out Netflix's latest, look no further than Mindhunter's source material and series writer - based on the same book (Mind Hunter: Inside FBI's Elite Serial Crime Unit) which inspired the character Jack Crawford (Hannibal Lecter film/tv series) and is penned by former FBI profiler (John Douglas) who served as an adviser on Jonathan Demme's masterwork Silence of the Lambs.

Factor in David Fincher - no stranger to noir-thrillers - who directed the first two episodes and executive produces along with Charlize Theron, and suddenly we're talking about a series that feels every bit as dark and moody as Fincher's Zodiac and Gone Girl, or cerebral as The Silence of the Lambs (1991) and Seven.

Mindhunter is also co-written by Joe Penhall (The Road) and stars Jonathan Groff (Disney's Frozen - Kristoff!, Looking), Holt McCallany (Blackhat), and Anna Torv (Fringe).

Sound like a winning formula? All 13 episodes will stream October 13, 2017 (US and UK). Check out the trailer!
