Disney in negotiations with '28 Weeks Later' director to helm the live-action 'Sword in the Stone' remake
Disney has found its director for their live-action reimagining of the studio's 1963 animated classic Sword in the Stone.
According to THR, 28 Weeks Later writer and director Juan Carlos Fresnadillo is negotiations to direct Disney’s live-action adaptation from a script written by Game of Thrones writer Bryan Cogman. Cogman has quietly written ten successful GoT’s episodes dating back to Season 1’s “Cripples, Bastards, and Broken Things” and is pegged to develop one of the five Game of Thrones spin-offs.
Fitting pairing to say the least given Disney’s adaptation is based on the 1938 novel of the same name that chronicles King Arthur’s humble medieval beginnings as an orphan who befriends the talented and legendary wizard Merlin along with Merlin’s cranky pet owl Archimedes. Together their adventures guide Arthur in a delightful coming-of-age story where it’s ultimately revealed that the young orphan is actually England’s rightful king.
Sword in the Stone was the final film released by the studio before Walt Disney’s death in 1963 and marks the second Merlin-based project Disney is currently developing, including The Merlin Saga, with Ridley Scott in negotiations to helm Merlin's origin story.
Maybe it's my childhood nostalgia speaking but consider me mildly interested in this adaptation. How about you?
